A beautiful self contained wood with well defined boundaries and a large grassy area which would be perfect for camping. Quiet and tucked away off the 'beaten' track and yet within easy driving of Cirencester, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Swindon and Oxford. The woods sits on Cotswold limestone of the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, AONB and has a flora associated with this geology and soil type.

While the wooded area is now on the National Woodland Inventory the open grassy area is classified as Lowland calcareous grassland. The old maps from the 1800's show the whole area as open with low growing shrubs, including we suspect, gorse and hence the name Calmsden Gorse. Back in 1795 the description in an Award of that date says, "All that piece of furze and pasture land situate in the south west corner of Calmsden Downs being 12 acres 2 roods and 27 perches". Furze is another name for gorse, Ulex europaeus.

Access is off a quiet country lane across a small track. Cotswold stone walling forms the boundaries, the land is level and free-draining.

Sporting rights are owned and included.
