Big Scots pine, larch and spruce spread evenly across the wood with oak and chestnut mixed with hawthorn and other shrubs. Lots of open ground some with interesting collection of wildflowers especially to the western part. Plenty of birds flit about in the woodland canopy, although not very good for the trees the ivy cladding some of the pines is excellent for birds. Surrounding area Nature reserves, neolithic flint mines, ruined castles. This wood is surrounded by land of high conservation status, although itself has few designations. Land to the north is SSSI part of the Brecks site of nature conservation interest. Nightjar, woodlark and stone curlew are rare birds protected nearby. Grimes Graves is about 4 miles away. Access Is directly off the public highway.
Boundaries The wood is bounded by fences, the fence to the south though has fallen in places. The woodland beyond this fence is not included, there are young trees on this land.
Please note, none of these woods are suitable for residential development, other uses such as summer camping may well be suitable.
