Description: Stockley Wood is set in open rolling countryside close to the attractive village of Brancepeth and only a few miles from Durham. Quiet and secluded when in Stockley Wood you will feel as if you are miles from anywhere. It is fairly dense woodland with some clearings which would be ideally suited to occasional family camping expeditions. The species within the wood include larch, pine, birch, beech and also due to the woods elevated position you will find heather and bilberry growing amongst the trees and in the clearings, together with some ferns and large patches of wood sorrel. There is a good track running around the perimeter of the wood as well as one which runs through the middle.
Boundaries: These are shown with blue markings.
Directions
1. From Durham travel south west along the A690 towards Brancepeth
2. At Brancepeth take the first right turn in to Wolsingham Road
3. Travel up this road for about 2 miles, pass the 'For Sale' by the layby on the left.
4. Park just past the 4th metal gate on the left, this is a passing place but there's plenty of room if you park at one end. The track behind this gate leads down to Stockley Wood on the right.
