Situated on the southern escarpment of the East Yorkshire Wolds the wood lies near the attractive village of Brantingham and from which there are extensive views over to the Humber Estuary. Wold Wood is quiet and secluded and has good access from Dale road via a solid woodland track. The wood runs down the western side of Brantingham Dale on well drained chalky soil. There are a number of foot tracks giving good access around the wood.

The lower part of the wood was planted about 35 years ago with a mix of sycamore, beech and a selection of conifers which are growing well. Towards the top of the wood the trees are of more varied age and there are some coppiced sycamore and other coppiced trees mixed in with some larch. Growing on the woodland floor are patches of alpine strawberry as well as wild raspberries and a thick carpet of dog’s mercury is growing throughout.

Wold wood is suitable for use by craft workers, as a conservation project or simply for peaceful enjoyment. It could also be used for occasional family camping and as a base to explore the Wolds Way long distance foot path which runs nearby.
