Description:  A wood of two contrasting areas;  the smaller conifer plantation containing Norway spruce and western red cedar with occasional oak standards, birch, ash and some willow.  The larger area contains the tallest of straight ash, mostly multistemmed suggesting a coppice origin, perfect for firewood with  long stems and minimal branching.  These trees are widely spaced  with a clear woodland floor,  in season the intense blue from the blanket of  bluebells is overwhelming. There's more, competing with the ash are cherry - easily recognised by the bark pattern of concentric rings - mature oak and occasional hornbeam.  Much smaller the hazel, hawthorn and field maple can be found throughout, old specimens with the most fascinating shapes.  This unique woodland structure suggests heavy grazing many many years ago and little intervention since then.  The most interesting ash tree can be found in the south east corner, it's large enough to climb into!

Boundaries:  Are shown by mauve markings, they are; line of posts to the west, by the trackside then a wire fence to the south, a shallow bank along the curved eastern line which meets the posts to the north.

Access:  The first part of the access track is also the drive to Greenacres House between the double gates and up to the single wooden field gate.  The access track turns right at this point. Most of the track is allweather, however the latter parts are seasonal but there are places to park on the harder parts.  The right of way is at all times and the maintenance according to the amount of use made.

Viewing: Viewers must take a set of details (please print out) but may go unaccompanied any time during daylight hours.

Covenant: The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant, click here for a copy, to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodland.
