Description Little Cherry Orchard Wood gets the best of the sun being southwest facing and is set in the Monmouthshire Hills on the side of a quiet undisturbed valley in a landscape of woodlands and hedgerow bounded small meadows. Behind the lane-side fringe of oak, ash, beech, cherry and hazel is the main area of the wood with lodgepole pine, a tree of similar characteristics to Scots pine on the lower slope and Japanese larch on the upper area. These were planted in about 1959 so are well-grown. Views to the south and west can be admired between the trees at various points. The pretty village of Shirenewton is about 2 miles to the east and has the usual facilities.
Access The woodland is easy to access being less than 10 miles from the Severn Bridge. Although there is no vehicle access into the wood there is a small area at the west end that could be made into a parking area. At the eastern end an old track leads down from the wood onto the lane along a narrow spur. This could be opened up for barrow and pedestrian access. Another small track follows the edge of the lane on the top of the bank.
