Description: A woodland with many uses set in the Lake District National Park. The main woodland is approached along the hard track running through a belt of mature trees including oak, sycamore, birch and alder. At the turning area is sited the small touring caravan in its own clearing, a foot track leads off this to the area of younger woodland, a mix of spruce, pine, birch and alder which in a few years time will be an ideal source of firewood. Here will be seen the 1st building, a dry corrugated store.
The track splits, one to the bank of the long straight waterway - pefect for fishing from or for launching a small boat or canoe, the other along the eastern side. This leads to the 'flight' or conservation pond beyond which is the tin-roofed building with a large verandah. From here the wildlife can be observed making use of the pond.
There is access along the bank to the far end of the wood, where an old wooden gate which opens onto a farm track marks the wood end.
Wildfowl (geese, ducks, waders etc) come in from the nearby estuary, deer wander through the wood, song birds inhabit the trees, water voles and other small mammals enjoy the water's edge.
A perfect woodland for camping, fishing, shooting and stalking, wildlife observation, boating, firewood collection and some self-sufficiency.

Directions
From the M6 take the A590 towards Kendal
- Continue on the A590 by going left, to Barrow and Grange
- after about 2 miles, cross an estuary river
- then look for the small turn left, signed to Foulshaw.
From the west along the A590
- take the 2nd right after the roundabout with junction to Lindale and Grange.
Continue down this lane for about 1½ miles
- the wood is on the right, park by but not in front of the wooden gate.
