The sound of silence, a gentle rustle of trees shaking in the wind, swans honking in the adjacent field, a nearby tractor purring as it ploughs through brown soils turning up worms and leatherjackets for local rooks. These are the sounds around East Sowdens Wood set in the quietest of locations.  To one side of the central track, which runs from the gate to the northern boundary, are Norway spruce, well-grown and with them birch, alder, oak, hazel and hawthorn as an understorey. On the other side of this track is the broadleaved semi-natural ancient woodland complete with the white stars of widespread wood anenome. Bluebells follow the anenome. Here we have oak, sweet chestnut coppice, birch, alder and sycamore. The track is solid and there is a turning circle at the end. A few poplars make use of the damper ground at the north amongst the alders.

There is a small stream on the north west boundary and two others flow through the wood in wet times.

This area is part of the High Weald AONB; sporting rights are included, mineral rights are retained by a previous owner but rights of access are very limited. Parish is Brede CP, District Council is Rother and the county East Sussex.

Access  is off Hundred House Lane then along a private track where there is a full right of way in perpetuity for the owner of East Sowdens Wood. Maintenance is shared and is according to use made.

Boundaries  are the edge of the field, the edge of the main track and against old track running down both sides.  There are fencing posts along these lines.
