There is everything here that the woodland enthusiast could wish for. Arriving at Bobbin Wood it is clearly a unique place that offers enormous scope for family forestry and supports a great diversity of wildlife and plant species.
On the woodland fringes mature western hemlock conifers, thought to date from the 1950s give way to the established broadleaf specimens in the secluded heart of Bobbin Wood. In parts a dense under-canopy of flowering rhododendron sits beneath mature beech, oak and ash, shielding numerous hidden clearings awaiting discovery by the woodland explorer.
The pond at Bobbin Wood is of particular note, full of wildlife and providing unique appeal to the visitor. Near this is the recently established willow plantation, the several species are ideal for basket weaving. This area is fenced to keep rabbits out!
The immediate area surrounding Bobbin Wood is made up of other private woodland and the rich farmlands of south Somerset characterised by sleepy villages and charming market towns. Nearby is the market town of Chard that centuries ago thrived as a wool town and then as a production centre for bobbin lace.
Included with the woodland the owner is leaving a self composting toilet.....ideal for camping trips.
Because this woodland is considered special a tree preservation order covers this and the surrounding woodlands, this does not prevent normal woodland management.
Access is off the public highhway along a woodland track.
