Manor Wood is an attractive and private woodland set amidst open farmland in the heart of the Essex countryside.

Accessed via a charming private track, the approach winds through the site past a small pond before reaching the heart of the woodland. At its centre, several generous glades open out, offering space for parking and a range of woodland pursuits. A practical shed is also located here, providing useful storage and shelter.

The woodland is thoughtfully varied. Around the central camp area are established fruit trees including Cox apple, pear, Stella cherry and plum, all approximately ten years old. The northern section features a wide ride that loops around the perimeter, allowing excellent access for woodland management. This area is characterised by striking veteran oak alongside younger broadleaf trees, with the occasional elm.

In the southern part of the woodland, younger broadleaf species dominate, including oak, cherry, ash and birch. At lower levels, hazel, hawthorn, field maple and spindle add to the diversity.

The land is flat and easy to walk throughout. In spring, daffodils and bluebells bring seasonal colour in the northern section. Open fields border the woodland to the west and south, creating pleasant views and allowing light to filter through the trees.

Wildlife is abundant, with deer, rabbits, foxes along with a wide variety of birdlife. Newts have also been recorded in the pond.

The woodland is well located, with a café in the nearby village of Elder Street and a popular pub in Debden, both within walking distance. The historic market town of Saffron Walden is just a short five-minute drive away and offers a range of local amenities.

Ward is Debden & Wimbish and the County Council is Essex.

Boundaries: To the north, east and west, the boundary is fenced. W and N border open fields, E follows a drainage ditch and private land beyond separated by hedgerow. S and SW the boundary is open. S follows Water Lane.

Access: There is excellent vehicle access all year round via a private track. Parking is possible in the woodland itself
