Stag Wood is a light, airy woodland tucked away on the outskirts of Ipswich, accessed via a quiet country lane. Graceful birch trees are spaced throughout, allowing dappled sunlight to filter across the forest floor and create a calm, inviting atmosphere. Along the western boundary stand several impressive veteran oaks, while the occasional spruce, sycamore and cherry add variety across the site. At ground level, ferns, grasses, wild privet and foxglove are common.

From the entrance, a series of woodland paths lead into the site, beginning with an open camping area complete with a bench creating an ideal spot for relaxing around a campfire in the evening. From here, winding trails branch off in different directions, passing through open glades and leading to a large clearing in the south-west corner. The terrain is mostly flat, making the woodland easy to explore.

The surrounding area supports a rich range of wildlife, with muntjac, roe and red deer, as well as foxes, regularly seen. For those interested in woodland management, Stag Wood offers an excellent starting point, requiring minimal upkeep while providing a steady supply of firewood.

Nearby, both Kesgrave and Ipswich are just a short drive away, and the Suffolk and Essex coastlines are easily accessible to the southeast.

Ward is Martlesham & Purdis Farm and the County Council is Suffolk.

Boundaries: The boundary is open N and W and borders neighbouring woodland. E is fenced and follows Monument Farm Lane. S is also fenced and borders private property. All boundaries are clearly marked with red paint on posts and trees.

Access: There is excellent vehicle access all year round via a hard track and shared locked gate. Parking is also possible inside the woodland itself.

For viewing we recommend parking on Monument Farm Lane and following the public footpath from there.
For viewing purposes, on one of the verges on Monument Farm Lane as marked 'B' on the map.
Follow the track marked in green on the map up to the big oak. At this point you will reach the SE corner of Stag Wood.
Alternatively, park on the verge near the entrance marked 'A' on the map, the main vehicular access for the woodland owners, which is gated and locked. Please don't block the gate.
Climb over the gate and follow the track marked blue on the map until you reach the woodland.
It's about a 10 minute walk.
