A secluded woodland, tucked away from busy roads, a great place to escape and unwind.

A stone track leads from the tarmac farm road to the ride stop entrance of Talbot Wood. Adjacent to this, a small wildlife pond is located within the boundary of the wood, a big draw for resident animals, birds and insects.

Beyond the ride-stop, an additional track leads to a private parking space around 50 metres into the wood. From here, you can walk along a cleared path to a glade surrounded by conifers and birch trees.

Tall aromatic spruce surround a number of small clearings. Amongst these are a scattering of oak, willow and Larch and following the course of the seasonal beck at the northern boundary are a few alder trees. The large conifers are ideal for tawny owl roosting sites as well as providing year-round cover for the small birds which flit around collecting insects and seeds in the canopy.

The open spaces within the wood are full of heather and bilberry with clumps of star mosses, forming large springy mattresses. Frogs hop around amongst the ground cover and smooth lizards can also be seen basking on sunny days. During the autumn several varieties of mushrooms appear between the grasses and heather.

The name of Talbot Wood is derived from the manor of Bashall , granted by Edmund de Lacy, 6th Lord of Bowland, to Thomas Talbot in 1253. It remained in the Talbot family until the early seventeenth century. Bashall Eaves was historically within the West Riding of Yorkshire until the county reorganisation in 1974 when the Ribble Valley was ‘moved’ to Lancashire.
