Access is taken from the farm along a stone track with fields to the left and woodland to the right, the track ends at a double metal gate that is the shared access to Shackleton and Elliot woods. Shackleton is the wood on the lefthand side as per the map provided. A couple of rides split the main body of spruce and these could be increased for larger vehicular access. Alternatively, access can be taken on the shared track that leads down to the pond.
This area around the pond is by far the highlight of the woodland, with open grassy glades inviting campers to share it. There is plenty of scope for additional planting here and around the far side too. Alongside the far boundary is the fast flowing south Ugie Water, always a desirable feature when looking at buying a woodland.
The views on the far side of the wood are wonderful and would be my choice for a woodland shelter; it is very private and does not overlook any buildings.
These woods are well worth a visit to see if they are a good fit.
There is full right of access along a shared stone farm track leading up to the wood continuing down to the pond area. The final 50m cto the pond would benefit from some additional stone, so as to get 2 well drive access, right down to the edge of the stream. The track leading as far as the wood however is more than adequate. All sporting and mineral rights are sold with the woodland.
Shackleton Wood is historically part of the old Brucklay Castle & Estate grounds, that covered a swathe of the South Ugie Water valley in the old county of Buchanshire. Maud village, with its good local facilities, including a shop and hotel pub, are within about 2 miles walk of Boyton Wood, via quiet roads or the nearby Formantine and Buchan Way. The larger village of Mintlaw and the coastal town of Peterhead are within 5 and 12 miles east respectively. New Deer village is a few miles west and Ellon, Turriff and Fraserburgh towns are within about 20 mins drive. The City of Aberdeen is about 30 miles and 45 mins drive to the south.
