Gantry Wood is a wood with a hidden surprise. The approach to the wood is along an all-weather restricted byway, and then a stoned private woodland track. The pine wood you see as you approach has both Scots and Corsican pine that have already been growing well for some 45 years, in addition to these there is a selection of mature oak and yew trees and three glades of recently planted hardwood saplings.  The pines have had a 1 in 4 thinning a while ago. Then, as you walk down you will suddenly come to a delightful hidden birch lined valley, with an attractive small stream running from west to east. Several pools have been naturally created in the stream bed. A venerable old yew tree leans over the stream.  Along this valley the ground almost levels out in places, to create small and very private clearings, Gantry Wood lies on the southern boundary of Limekiln and Park Woods and, to the south of the wood, are some fine views over High Weald farmland.

Deer are frequent visitor to this and the surrounding woodland areas, see photos!

The wood is situated in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

Access  is off Boarshead Lane, then along a restricted byeway, then along a forest track where there is a full right of way.

Boundaries  Are indicated by faded lime green markings. To the south there is a benck and fence, the north east line has free-standing stakes and along the west side it's the track edge.

Coventant  There is a covenant on the wood designed to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of this and adjoining woodlands, click HERE to read and download.
