Ancient and semi-natural woodland, New Frith Wood has the woodland flowers and trees to support this designation. Mostly level it is served by two boundary tracks and two internal tracks.  A sizeable stream runs through the north side, usually all season but its flow does cease in very dry summers. The word Frith is old English roughly translates as "peace, protection, safety and security". It is peaceful being set well back from the Smarden Road and adjacent to the open grazed fields of Woodlands Farm to the west.

The coppice is of varying ages, principally hornbeam but accompanied by the usual companions of hazel, hawthorn, birch and aspen; above these are the mature oaks with wide-spreading branches forming a high canopy sheltering the ground below. A truly beautiful and diverse woodland, tons of firewood, lots of wildlife and plentiful supply of timber. Something for everyone. There is an article 4 direction on the wood which limits some permitted developments, details are available on request. This designation does not affect normal forestry use and management.

During the last war all the woodlands in this area would have contributed their cover to hide preparations for invasions, Italian prisoners of war were put to work digging drainage ditches. Some of the earthworks are much older dating from medieval times when banks and ditches were formed to delineate boundaries. Some history is described here and here.  The wood straddles the two parishes of Pluckley and Smarden. The wood is designated as a LWS, details are here and all the woods in this location are covered by an article iv.

Access  is off the public highway and along a woodland track.
