A quiet ancient woodland set in beautiful East Sussex countryside yet easily access. The High Weald AONB designation (click for details) recognises the pretty landscape of the area and the semi-natural ancient woodland status is a reflection of the conservation value in the wood.

As with many woods in the area sweet chestnut is the main species of tree, either as a standard or as coppice. Both are found here. With these are birch, a good firewood tree and oak.

About half the wood (to the east) has been coppiced and is growning back strongly.

Access  is though the wood's own gate directly off the public highway, Bixley Lane. There is a public footpath all along the southern bounday and also for a short distance along the north.

Boundaries  these are clearly defined with a fence to the south, to the west there is a shallow bank as there is along the north side.
