Church Town Wood is nestled in a glorious valley near the village of Cheriton Bishop close to the borders of Dartmoor National Park. On the main access track is a parking area and a further private parking area through the entrance gate that it shares with two neighbouring woodland owners.

Access from the public highway suits most vehicles in the drier months and 4x4 use in the winter. When dry you can drive from your home into the heart of the woodland between the well-spaced mature fir and spruce trees.

Magnificent mature fir trees at the entrance give way to a denser mix of broadleaf further down the slope until you reach the north western boundary next to an attractive stream.

Proceeding down the slope you go through a changing tree structure: look out for a track that leads into the part of the woodland that has mixed broadleaved trees and follows the route of a stream. There are a number of tree species here including oak and hazel. Located on the western side of this track, near the boundary, you will see a bench by the stream. Sit here and listen to the many species of birds that use the woodland. You may even catch a glimpse of the secretive red deer that move through the woodland.

The eastern boundary is indicated by a line of posts, this area is a favourite place for butterflies such as silver wash fritillaries and the peacock butterfly often seen resting on the brambles here.

Church Town Wood is located on part of a gently sloping valley on the edge of Dartmoor in this beautiful part of rural Devon. The location is tranquil yet it is conveniently located within a 5 minute drive of the A30.

Access   is along A-B a farm track where there is a right of way for Church Town Wood, shown dashed green on the plan.
