Description  Like many of the woods of Cornwall, Trethowel Wood covers an east facing side of the combe running from the granite and china clay hills down to the sea at Pentwan.  Fully stocked with oak and beech with sycamore, hornbeam, chestnut and the widespread hazel.  Firewood is plentiful, open areas in the upper parts are suitable to camping and woodland activities. Rhododendron affords shelter and privacy and of course has beautiful flowers in early summer. In spring there is a magnificent display of bluebells.  The woodland is covered by a TPO (tree preservation order) but this does not prevent normal woodland management which is best implemented through a Foresty Commission approved management plan.

Access  There is a sharp turning off the Bodmin Road in Trethowel. This is the road down to Beech Lodge Residential Home. The entrance to the wood is through a wooden gate straight ahead. The road up to the residential home twists back on itself.   For viewing there is space to park by the Menacuddle Well, a local landmark, on the right.

A track runs up the wood giving access to the upper parts. This track was the old route (but no longer) to Trethowel Farm on the hill. This track is suitable for walking but too overgrown for anything else. It could be cleared to give access into the woodland.

Boundaries  These are mostly wood banks.

Please note, none of these woods are suitable for residential development, other uses such as summer camping may well be suitable.

Viewing: You are welcome to visit this wood by yourself, but please ensure that you have a copy of these sales details with you - many of our woodlands do not have mobile phone reception or internet access so we recommend either printing the details or downloading them to your phone/tablet/laptop. Please take care when viewing as the great outdoors can contain unexpected hazards and woodlands are no exception.
