Coed LLwynog (or Fox Wood) boasts some of the finest views of Snowdonia you will ever see. It is situated 2 miles from Talsarnau in the small hamlet of Eisingrug within the old boundaries of Maes y Neuadd Hotel (now closed).

The entrance to the woodland takes you into a area of natural regeneration and open grassland. A clear path will take you up the hill alongside an impressive stone wall to a rustic bench, and on to a wooden cabin. The natural regeneration in this section includes silver birch, rowan, oak, willow & holly.

Following the boundary wall around to the East the woodland becomes increasingly dense with more incredible viewing spots continuously surprising you. The hillside leads you down to a glade surrounded by very mature oak and ash trees. The glade itself would be the perfect clearing for woodland actives such as camping and is completely isolated.

Trees: The woodland itself is a mixed format woodland that offers a delightful range of vistas and environments. As the site of a former conifer plantation part of this woodland has had around 17 years of natural regeneration which nestles alongside an impressive hidden glade surrounded by mature broadleaf trees.   There are areas where bracken dominates, and with some control of the bracken these areas could be planted with new trees. There is plenty of scope to add to the current stock of trees within the woodland using the many mature trees that seed each year.

A variety of tree species can be found here, including oak, birch, willow, holly, spruce, hazel & rowan.

The Cabin: has permitted development approval, for tool and equipment storage, and offers magnificent views across the bay towards Portmeirion and the hills beyond. It is equipped with a small solar panel and leisure battery.

Boundaries: The south-western and eastern boundaries of the wood are marked with dry stone walls. The southern half of the western boundary meanders along the route of the public footpath that runs past the wood.  The remainder of the western boundary is marked with stakes (see photo 8, and photo 9 for the southern end of this boundary, next to a fallen tree).

Wildlife: A range of wildlife is likely to be encountered including buzzards, song birds, pheasant & foxes.

Access: A stoned access track and turning circle, suitable for an ordinary car, runs all the way to the wood. On leaving the public highway you can drive up a private track taking in a view that stretches from Harlech castle, across the Llyn Peninsula, to the Snowdon mountain range. Coed Llwynog is the furthest point from the road ensuring peace and quiet. There is a parking place and a turning circle at the entrance to the woodland.

Sporting rights: Included

Mineral rights: Reserved to a previous owner in a conveyance of 1956, but never exercised.

Covenant:  there is a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

Public footpaths: There is a public footpath along the southern half of the western boundary, and also through the woodland, running out to the eastern boundary where the dry stone wall is equipped with climbing stones (see photo 19).  This footpath is little used, and the extent of natural regen means that it doesn’t interfere with the privacy of other parts of the wood. Yellow-topped stakes mark the route of the public footpath (see photo 17).

A leaning stake (photo 15) marks the point where the public footpaths meet.

National Park: Coed Llwynog is within the Eryri  (Snowdonia) National Park.

Local area:  Just 3.5 miles from Harlech, its famous castle is visible from a few places in the woodland. The world famous Portmeirion can also be seen from the woods and is easy to reach in 15 minutes.

VIEWING: You are welcome to visit this wood by yourself.  Please ensure that you have a copy of these sales details with you: we recommend either printing the details or downloading them to your phone/tablet/laptop before you go. Please take care when viewing as the great outdoors can contain unexpected hazards and woodlands are no exception.  Make sure you take a copy of the sales particulars with you, as there may be no mobile signal at the woodland.
