Description: Parry Wood is a small, level, and accessible wood, part of Wern Brake woodland, with spectacular views to the south. It is well located for the M4, with views across the Severn estuary.
The wood has some mature trees, but mainly consists of young broadleaves. The western side is designated as Ancient Semi-natural Woodland, while the remainder is ‘Ancient Woodland of unknown category’.
Access: the wood adjoins the public highway, but the main access is over a right of way through a gate, and over a good woodland track. There is a stoned hard-standing within the wood itself, suitable for use by an ordinary car.
Shelter: there is a small tool shed in the wood, on the southern boundary.
Boundaries: the southern boundary is fenced from adjoining farmland . The eastern and north-western boundaries are marked with stakes, further marked with blue paint. The northern boundary is formed by the main access track within the wood. The short south-western boundary is the road.
Sporting rights: Included.
Mineral rights: Included
Local area: Parry Wood is located 6 miles north of the M4 at Magor, and 9 miles from the Old Severn Bridge, 13 miles from Newport, and 24 miles from the centre of Bristol.
Gray Hill, with views over Wentwood (the largest area of ancient forest in Wales) and the Severn Estuary is just two miles away.
VIEWING: You are welcome to visit this wood by yourself. Please ensure that you have a copy of these sales details with you: we recommend either printing the details or downloading them to your phone/tablet/laptop before you go. Directions
Parry Wood is best accessed from either J24 of the M4 or J2 of the M48
From the West via the M4 J24
Take J24, then the A48 signposted Caerwent
Follow the A48 for almost 4.5 miles, and turn left immediately after the Rock and Fountain Inn.
After quarter of a mile, take a left turn. Follow the road for 1 mile, then, just past a house called "The Byre", and opposite a large metal barn, turn right. At the T-junction, the entrance to Parry Wood is from the layby just to the right of the junction.
From the east via the M4 and M48 J2
take the A466 towards Chepstow then turn left at the first roundabout onto the A48 signposted Caerwent. After 5 miles turn right, signposted Llanvair Discoed.
At the T-junction in Llanvair Discoed, turn right, signposted Wentwood/Coed Gwent.
After three quarters of a mile, the distinctive red gate to access Parry Wood is at the back of a layby on the right hand side.
If navigating by SatNav, postcodes are not very helpful here. The postcode area that covers the wood (NP26 3AZ) is centred three quarters of a mile away.
