Wrenwood is a conservationists’ delight, and a rare find! A small and manageable wood, with a fruit orchard, a well fenced wild flower meadow, mostly gently sloping, with a stream with waterfalls, a wooden cabin/shelter/store, built to an unusually high standard, excellent access directly off the public highway, in a desirable location, and just a one mile walk from the River Wye and the Wye Valley Walk.
The Woodland: a native broadleaf woodland, with a variety of mature trees. In common with Pwllplythin Wood to the north, owned by the Welsh Assembly, it is designated as Ancient Semi-Natural Woodland.

The Wildflower Meadow: following the advice of Monmouthshire Meadows Group and Gwent Wildlife Trust, the meadow has been managed for the last twelve years with an annual cut and removal of grass in late summer, controlled grazing for short periods with ponies, sheep or goats, encouragement of Yellow Rattle, and control of bracken to maximise its ecological value as a wild flower meadow and wildlife site. The meadow is classed as Species-rich grassland; survey reports and full species schedules, carried out by Monmouthshire Meadows and Gwent Wildlife Trust, are available. It is also a local Wildlife Site.
The Orchard: was planted with fruit trees during the period 2013 to 2019 with twenty varieties of apple, pear, plum, cherry plum, and damson, and also has a small wildlife pond. A full planting schedule of the varieties, and their locations, is available.
The Cabin: built with the benefit of Planning Permission (granted in 2013), this provides shelter when working on or just enjoying the land, and is built to a very high standard. It is 5m x 3m, with a 5m x 1m covered outdoor area, and equipped with a wood burning stove, 12V lighting, kitchen area with a twin gas hob (propane), sink, shelving and worktop area, and compost toilet. It is clad externally with waney-edge Douglas Fir boarding, with a cedar shingle roof. It is fully insulated and finished to a very high standard internally. The planning permission allows for its use for shelter when working on the land, or just enjoying time there, but does not extend to residential use, or using it as a holiday rental. Note: fixtures and fittings are included in the sale, but contents are not.

Boundaries: The southern boundary is separated from the public highway by a fence and hedge. The majority of the northern and north-eastern boundaries are White Brook, and as is conventional, the owner of Wrenwood is deemed to own up to the mid point of the stream. For a short section in the middle, the northern boundary extends to a stone wall the far side of the stream. The western boundary and the remainder of the eastern boundary are fenced
Wildlife: Wrenwood is a Gwent Wildlife Site, and deer, badgers and foxes have been seen.
Access: A stoned access track and turning circle, suitable for an ordinary car, runs into the south-western corner of the land, adjacent to the cabin.
Sporting rights: Included
Mineral rights: Included, except as excluded by statute.
Public footpaths: There is a public footpath through the eastern end of the woodland, accessed from the road via a stile.
National Landscape: Wrenwood is within the Wye Valley National Landscape (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty).
Local area: Margarets Wood – a Gwent Wildlife Site – is directly opposite Wrenwood, and the Michelin Star Whitebrook restaurant with rooms is just a few yards away. The River Wye is about one mile down the road, giving access to the Wye Valley Walk (that runs all the way from Chepstow to Llanidloes).
The area has a history of wire and paper-making, and Whitebrook was home to three paper mills.
Wrenwood is just five miles south of Monmouth, and Tintern Abbey is six miles to the south.
Photographs: were taken in May 2025, with additional photographs from 2017 to 2024.
