Description
Hongrass Wood is located in south west Shropshire a beautiful part of a beautiful county by the village of Newcastle in the area known as the Clun Forest. The Offa's Dyke path runs nearby to the east. This part of Shropshire is designated as the Shropshire Hills AONB. All-in-all a wonderful area.
The wood covers the south side of the Clun Valley from where the River Clun can be seen meandering along the valley floor.
There are many of the desirable qualities of a fine wood: lots of oak with hazel bushes below the canopy; a scattering of mature ash; an open area with occasional hazel showing an abundance of catkins in spring; superb views and, being a semi-natural ancient wood, plenty of wild flowers.
Although steep in parts there is good access along the foot of the wood. Tracks lead to the upper parts from which the views across the valley to the Castle Hill, the Settlement and the other hills can be enjoyed. A wood of seclusion, rural peace and quiet.
There are several places to stay in the village and environs including an old drovers inn, Crown Inn.
Access
From the road there is a right of way for Hongrass Wood along a hard track, with a gate at the start and another just before the contractors 'yard'. This continues to the woodland entrance. The woodland purchaser will get a key to the gates.
Boundaries
On the eastern side it's the bank topped with hazel running up the hill; along the north side the far side of the track; along the other sides there are wire fences.
