Description
A beautiful Chiltern wood in a most desirable location, Little Beam Wood is part of extensive semi-natural ancient woodland known as Bensgrove, Common and Abbotts Woods.
The tall straight mature beech, approx 60 years old, were probably planted after the harvest in the 1940's referred to in the SOAG paper linked here. At this time the timber would have been used for wheel spokes. Under the beech there are numerous holly with an occasional birch and oak. Bluebells make the most spectacular display in spring.
The woodland is level with access all round and is set in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty a designation which recognises and contributes to the beauty of the area, characterised by extensive beech woodlands and chalk hills.
There is a covenant on Little Beam Wood designed to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of this and adjoining woods.
Access is for all times with and without vehicles along a woodland track as shown green on the plan.
Boundaries
To the eastern side a row of stakes, along the south the outside of the track and along the north along the inside of the track.
