Chaff Wood is some distance from the nearest main road and as such is a very peaceful woodland just a short distance from the picturesque village of Petham and set within the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Beauty.

Chaff Wood is well stocked and made up mainly of sweet chestnut, oak, sycamore and birch, both coppice and standards. Mature beech, some hazel and also maple can be found. Rhododendron and blue bells can also be seen in season. In spring this area is favoured by nightingales and their loud song can often be heard.

As part of the larger Capel and Denge Wood, the woodland is considered to be semi-natural ancient, although dominated by chestnut, is of high conservation quality and designated as a Site of Nature Conservation Interest (SNCI). There is also a local authority article 4 on these woods.

District is Canterbury and the County Council is Kent

Boundaries are marked in blue on all sides and bordered by woodland. The main bridleway runs along the length of the wood on the south east side.
