A mixed hillside woodland set in a beautiful secluded valley. There is good access along a long forest track through woodland from a locked entrance gate; at the end of this track the wood is private and peaceful.

There are two distinct areas:

the lower native broadleaved part with oak, hazel, silver birch, sycamore, willow, ash and alder. Some of this area is wet and ideal for pond creation. Wellington boots are needed to view the wetter parts;

well-thinned, tall, straight larch, firs and Norway spruce can be found in the upper parts where there is an open woodland activities and camping area and just beyond a turning area at the end of the track.

A fast-flowing stream runs along the northern boundary next to the lane, although not included the woodland owners have in the past enjoyed this as their own. The native woodland, conifers and wetlands are an ideal combination for a wide variety of wildlife. There's an impressively large mature sycamore just inside the wood on the north side of the track.

There are no specific designations on the wood other than it is ancient semi-natural woodland, also part of the Carmarthenshire  LBAP (local biodiversity action plan) area. Sporting rights are included. There is a standard covenant on the wood which can be seen by clicking here.

Boundaries:    to the north, the edge of the stream running alongside the lane;  to the east the bank alongside the field;  to the south the foot of the two tracks;  to the west the line of posts running from the upper track down to the lower track (alongside a bank) then another line of posts further to the west running down to the stream. These last posts have red tape attached.
