South Point Wood is a mature area of woodland with clearly defined boundaries provided by the woodland tracks and open pasture around most of its periphery. The high canopy is mostly beech with birch, holly and small areas of oak and hazel along the boundary.

There are wonderful views looking south over this part of Hampshire. This delightful rolling farmland in this part of the Test valley provides an ideal free draining soil for the beech tree which is the dominant species at South Point Wood.  These trees have formed a dense canopy which can encourage unique ground flora, such as certain types of orchid. The sunlight penetrates deep into the wood by virtue of its position at the southern edge of a larger wooded area. This is an important environment and as such carries a local authority Tree Preservation Order (TPO). The TPO is there to ensure the protection of the wider woodland.

The nearby town of Andover started as a royal hunting lodge and remained a small market town supported by income from the wool and silk trade until their decline in the nineteenth century when brewing and an iron foundry became prominent. Significant expansion in the 1960s saw Andover become an important regional centre that now provides an extensive array of commercial and leisure facilities, including everything that is needed for the new woodland owner.

Roe, fallow and muntjac deer inhabit the wood and insect-rich sunny glades at the southern edge are feeding grounds for numerous species of bird life.

Ward is Burghclere, Highclere and St Mary Bourne and the County Council is Hampshire

Boundaries: To the south the boundary fenced and borders fields. The boundary is open to the east and follows the access track. To the north the boundary is open and follows a the woodland footpath, marked with red stakes.
