Anslem Wood presents a rare chance to acquire a beautiful area of ancient, semi-natural broadleaf woodland on the edge of Canterbury.
Mature, well-spaced oak trees dominate the landscape, complemented by beech, chestnut, birch, hornbeam, holly, hawthorn, and hazel, creating a rich and varied woodland environment. There is a TPO in place to protect the woodland.
The ground is largely flat, making the wood easy and enjoyable to explore. A seasonal stream traces the northeast boundary and also flows west to east through the centre, enhancing the setting and supporting a diverse range of wildlife. Deer from the wider South Bishops Den regularly pass through, with bedding areas scattered across the woodland, while bluebells flourish along the stream banks in season.
A number of natural glades and clearings provide ideal spots for a camp base, and a simple log store is positioned towards the southern part of the site. Despite its proximity to the A2, the woodland feels very private and tranquil, with light filtering beautifully through the high canopy.
Although a public footpath runs along the western edge, it is rarely used and does not impact on the sense of seclusion.
For convenience, local services near the entrance offer everyday essentials and hot food, while Canterbury is just a short drive away. Whitstable and the north coast are also within easy reach, and with direct access to the A2, both London to the west and Dover to the east are readily accessible.
Anslem Wood is one of four adjacent woodlands of varying sizes currently available. See also Boniface, North Cranmer and South Cranmer. For those looking for a larger woodland these could be sold in parts or as a whole.
Ward is Boughton and Courtenay and the County Council is Kent.
