Clarence Wood is a beautifully varied and well-managed woodland set within the High Weald National Landscape, offering an abundance of attractive natural features. Tucked away on the outskirts of Tunbridge Wells and far from any roads, it provides a truly peaceful and secluded retreat.

The woodland is divided into two distinct areas. From the entrance, a wide grassy ride leads into the site, opening out into a series of glades and a central camp area. From here, a network of paths winds through the wood. To the south, you’ll find a mix of younger birch, oak, beech, ash and chestnut, while the western side is characterised by mature Scots pine and spruce.

A substantial pond lies in the north-west corner, complemented by a lovely stream that runs through the woodland and along the northern boundary. Elsewhere, the tree cover includes hazel, poplar, field maple, holly, sycamore and hawthorn. At ground level, ferns and grasses are interspersed with seasonal displays of bluebells and primroses.

The terrain is largely flat, making it easy to explore, though gentle slopes in the western section add variety and interest. The surrounding woodland is rich in birdlife, species such as buzzard, wren, blackcap, firecrest, siskin and chiffchaff could all be heard during our visit.

Despite its tranquil setting, the wood is conveniently located. Pembury is within walking distance, offering local shops and a welcoming pub, while Tunbridge Wells is just a short drive away. With easy access to the A21, central London can be reached in around an hour.

Ward is Pembury & Capel and the County Council is Kent.

Boundaries: The boundary is open NE, E and S and borders neighbouring woodland. N is partially fenced and borders private property and neighbouring woodland. E follows the access track, S follows a public footpath. All boundaries are clearly marked with red paint on posts and trees.

Access: There is excellent vehicle access all year round via a hard track and shared locked gate. Parking is also possible inside the woodland itself.

Covenant: There is a covenant on the wood designed to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of this and adjoining woodlands, click HERE to read and download.
