Warlters Wood is a beautifully maintained mixed woodland located on the edge of Alton, surrounded by the rolling Hampshire countryside.

The woodland is predominantly made up of well-spaced larch, with Scots pine also widely found. A variety of broadleaf species including beech, ash, birch, and chestnut add to its character, while hazel, hawthorn, and holly form a rich understorey. Sunlight filters easily through the canopy, giving the woodland a bright and open atmosphere.

The ground is level throughout, making it easy to explore. A network of rides, originally created for woodland management, now provides access across the site and is carpeted with bluebells, foxgloves and grasses in season. Footpaths lead through open glades and clearings, offering ideal spots for seasonal camp bases, particularly during the summer months.

The entire site is securely enclosed with fencing and benefits from two private gated entrances. At the main entrance, there is a substantial hard-standing area that provides convenient private parking. There is also good mobile reception.

Despite the fencing, wildlife remains abundant. Muntjac deer are frequent visitors and can often be seen moving through the grasses and ferns. The woodland also supports a rich variety of birdlife, including woodpeckers, tree pipits, marsh tits, firecrests, goldcrests, and spotted flycatchers, all recorded locally.

A woodland management plan is currently in place and runs through to 2027. The nearby town of Alton is just a short drive away, along with easy access to the A31.

Ward is Bentworth & Froyle and the County Council is Hampshire.

Boundaries: The boundaries are securely fenced on all sides of the main woodland. N and W follow the main access track. E and S border open fields. The boundary on the smaller leg section to the south is open along the access track and fenced adjoining the field. The boundary is also marked with blue paint on posts and trees.

Access: There is good vehicle access via a shared track and two locked gates. Warlters Wood also has two private gates NW and SE. Parking is possible within the woodland and also in a large parking area in front of the main entrance.

Covenant: There is a covenant on the wood designed to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of this and adjoining woodlands, click HERE to read and download.
