Artemis Wood is a magical and varied woodland, featuring a rich mix of conifer and native broadleaf species, set on the outskirts of the popular town of Bruton.

A picturesque stream runs from west to east through the centre of the wood, dividing the site into two distinct areas. From the northern entrance, mature spruce and conifers dominate the landscape, providing shelter and light throughout the year. A network of rides and open, well-drained areas makes exploration easy and offers ideal locations for establishing a camp base for woodland activities.

Moving south, oak and beech are more common, hazel, ash, birch and chestnut are also present. While the stream gully is steep in places, there are numerous points where it can be crossed with ease. The southern boundary adjoins open fields, allowing sunlight to flood into this part of the woodland.

The stream supports a wide range of wildlife, including voles, hare's, roe and muntjac deer, along with other woodland mammals, making the site particularly appealing to nature enthusiasts.

Set well away from busy roads and with no public access, Artemis Wood offers privacy and seclusion, making it an excellent opportunity for those interested in woodland management within a peaceful and private setting.

District Council is South Somerset and the County Council Somerset.

Boundaries: The boundary is open N, E and W and borders neighbouring woodland. S is fenced and borders open fields. The boundary is clearly marked with red paint on trees and posts.

Access: There is excellent vehicle access all year round via a hard track and shared locked gate. Parking is possible next to the entrance of the wood.
