Beeching Way is a delightful mixed woodland bordered by a charming stream that runs along its entire western edge. This woodland is part of the much larger Barehills Wood, which includes both ancient woodland and ancient replanted woodland (PAWS). Approximately 60 years ago, Douglas fir and spruce were planted here, providing potential for commercial logging. Additionally, you'll find hazel, alder, willow, poplar, sycamore, laurel, holly, mature beech, and oak throughout the area. At lower levels, ferns, grasses, and seasonal bluebells are common, especially along the stream banks.

A strategically placed picnic table by the stream near an ancient weir offers an ideal spot to relax and observe woodland wildlife. Regular visitors include red and roe deer, foxes, tawny owls, greater spotted woodpeckers, grey wagtails, and buzzards. Excitingly, beavers are more recent residents to the wood, a big bonus for nature lovers.

Wide pathways enter from both the north and south, with woodland trails winding throughout the site. Most of the area features a gentle slope, but there are also good flat sections perfect for setting up camp.

The nearby village of Stoodleigh, home to the popular Stoodleigh Inn with its garden and fantastic views, is within walking distance. The picturesque town of Tiverton is a short drive away, offering shops, restaurants, and other services. Additionally, Exmoor National Park and the stunning north Devon coast, known for the popular surfing beaches of Croyde and Woolacombe, are easily accessible.
