Celandine Wood is a beautiful mixed woodland nestled within the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the outskirts of Bath.

Positioned on high ground near the River Avon, it enjoys a particularly attractive setting, with a shared access track leading from the entrance down through the wider woodland before levelling out to reveal views to the west.

The landscape is diverse, combining gently sloping areas and occasional rocky outcrops with open glades and broad rides across the upper sections. These spaces, along with several naturally flat areas, are well suited to woodland activities or seasonal overnight stays. Near the entrance, currently a little overgrown with brambles, a path runs down to a bench, offering a peaceful vantage point across the valley.

Within the wood, towering beech, ash and oak dominate, the high canopy allowing dappled light to filter through. Elsewhere, sycamore and Scots pine are interspersed, with holly, hazel, and hawthorn creating a varied understorey. In spring, bluebells and wild garlic bring colour and scent to the forest floor.

A network of paths and rides makes exploring the site straightforward, while the access track provides additional routes around the wood. There is also a secondary area in the south-west corner that could serve as parking if required.

Although there are no public footpaths within the woodland itself, nearby routes can be accessed close to the entrance, leading towards the Dundas Aqueduct and along the river. Warleigh Weir is also within easy walking distance, and the nearby city of Bath, along with Bradford-on-Avon and surrounding villages, are all just a short drive away.

Ward is Winsley & Westwood and the County Council is Bath & North East Somerset.

Boundaries: The boundary is open on all sides and borders neighbouring woodland to the east. N, S and W follow the access track which runs around the perimeter of the wood. All boundaries are marked with light green paint on posts and trees.

Access: There is excellent vehicle access all year round via a hard track and shared locked gate. Parking is also possible inside the woodland itself.

Covenant: There is a covenant on the wood designed to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of this and adjoining woodlands, click HERE to read and download.
