Description:  Brynmeini Wood is a wonderfully secluded and peaceful sylvan idyll in the valley of the River Cywyn. This is a primarily broadleaf woodland, with a couple of small stands of Norway spruce between the track and the river. It feels remote, but is only 8 miles from Carmarthen and the A40 for access to the M4.  A small river, the Afon Cywyn, runs mostly along the length of the eastern boundary of the wood, but for two short stretches of around 60 and 100 metres the boundary crosses to the other side of the river, putting the whole of the river within the wood.

Some of the wetter flat areas near the river give many opportunities to create ponds, subject to any necessary consents. Others are both flat and dry enough for riverside camping. Walking through the valley near the river only two things can be heard: the rush of water in the fast flowing but shallow river, and the sound of numerous songbirds. In some areas, the river has sculpted out deeper pools, which may prove just too tempting to resist on a hot summers day.

Virtually all of the woodland is designated as Semi-Natural Ancient Woodland.

Additional items:  Included in the sale are two caravans, one in good usable condition, one more suitable for storage, and an old but running Daihatsu Sportrak 4WD for use within the woodland (note, no MoT or tax). There is an International tractor parked in the wood, again old, but running, available by separate negotiation

Access: Brynmeini Wood is accessed via a short right of way off a minor country lane. There is a basic but solid and serviceable track running most of the way through the middle of the wood. To the east of the track the land is mostly level, with the river, the Afon Cywyn easily accessible. To the west of the track the land slopes up the side of the valley. There are no public footpaths in or near the wood. A solid stone track runs along the western edge of the wood, at the top of the valley. The owner of Brynmeini Wood has a right of way along this track, providing access to the upper level of the wood.  A four wheel drive would be advisable for access into the wood in all but the driest conditions, but there is a parking area just inside the main gate, a short distance from Brynmeini Wood. Outcrops of shale suggest there may be sufficient stone available within the wood for any track improvements that may be undertaken.

Boundaries: the eastern boundary is the Afon Cywyn for most of its length. The western boundary is the stone track running along the top of the valley. The southern edge of the wood is marked by stakes, with a small stream running down the side of the valley for much of its length. There are no known fencing liabilities.

Sporting rights:  Included in the sale.

Covenant: in common with the woodlands to the west and south, there is a covenant designed to ensure that all can have quiet and peaceful enjoyment of their woodland.

Local area: The woodland is only about 8 miles from Carmarthen for all local amenities, and access to the A40,  and the A48 leading to the M4. For steam train and Thomas the Tank Engine enthusiasts, the Gwili Railway is only 7 miles away just north of Carmarthen. The nearest shop, post office, petrol station (and Chinese restaurant) are in Cynwyl Elfed, just 3 miles away.

Directions

From the south, take the A484 north out of Carmarthen towards Cardigan and Newcastle Emlyn. After five miles, just after you enter the 30mph zone in Cynwyl Elfed, take the second, very small, turning on the left, signposted Blaenycoed and Y Gangell. Follow this road until you reach a T-junction. Turn right and then after about 100 metres turn left. Follow this road for 1 mile, to the bottom of the hill, where just after a bridge on a left hand bend you will see the Forests.co.uk For Sale sign on the left side of the road. Park in the gateway (without blocking access) and walk along the track towards Brynmeini Wood.  About 100 metres from the main gate, the entrance to the wood is marked by a rustic split oak gate on a left fork in the track, just as the right fork starts to climb the hill.
