Description: Coed Glannant is a wood for the more adventurous! The rocky outcrops and boulders, deep ravines, long river frontage and wonderful mature broadleaf trees make it a woodland of great variety and interest and provides an exciting environment for scrambling, climbing and exploring.

Coed Glannant is a wood of two halves. The western end of the wood is accessed directly from the road: Varteg Hill. The relatively flat upper level then drops away, in places quite steeply, to the river Tawe below.

The eastern end of the wood is the other side of a ravine carrying a small stream, accessed via a small footbridge at the top of the ravine. Following the path eastwards from the footbridge leads you further into the upper level of the wood. There are a variety of different tree species in Coed Glannant including oak, hazel, alder and ash, some of which have matured into fantastic specimen trees. Among these, there are some largish flat areas which could be cleared to create areas for forestry activities, green woodworking, birdwatching or camping. There are lots of young ash saplings that in a few years time will be ready to be coppiced, which could be used for wood fuel or green wood working. This upper level of Glannant Wood is predominantly flat in this area, but towards the river it drops away steeply, forming rocky cliff faces which drop down to the Tawe. From the path which runs eastwards along the top of this slope, there are great views down to the river and also into the canopies of the veteran trees here that provide abundant nesting for birds that feed off the river. The path runs through the length of the wood to a pedestrian gate.  The ravine just before the gate is actually the boundary of the wood.

Access: the wood can be accessed on foot from anywhere along the road frontage. Just up the hill from the "For Sale" sign there is a good sized car park within the woodland. Should the new owner wish, they could undertake the project of building their own bridge which would provide access directly from the car park into the woodland beyond the ravine next to the car parking area. There is already a footbridge over the ravine, a few metres up the road from the parking area.

There are several points where it is feasible to get down from the flat upper level of the wood to the river, but in some areas it is too steep for that to be practical.  The riverside is also accessible from next to the bridge at the bottom of Varteg Hill.

Sporting rights: We believe that the owner of this wood does not have fishing rights on the River Tawe, but that a licence could be bought from the angling association that owns the rights. Other sporting rights are included

Mineral rights: Included

Wildlife: The river's proximity means there is a great variety of birdlife here including buzzard, raven, woodpecker and owl, and there is also evidence that there are foxes and badgers in the area. On the eastern boundary, the wood is adjacent to the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales' Wern Plemys nature reserve and Diamond Park. Wern Plemys is an open access reserve, sometimes grazed by Exmoor ponies, and featuring a number of uncommon species of wildflower in its meadows.

Local area: Glannant Wood is located 10 miles from the M4, and 14 miles from the centre of Swansea.
