Coed Brwynen (Rush Wood) is a mixed woodland set on a mostly gently sloping hillside in a beautiful secluded valley.

There are two distinct areas:

  • the lower native broadleaved part with oak, hazel, silver birch, sycamore, willow, ash and alder. Some of this area is wet, with a cover of sphagnum moss, and ideal for pond creation. Wellington boots are needed to view the wetter parts!
  • well-thinned, tall, straight larch, firs and sitka spruce can be found in the upper parts where there is an open woodland activities and camping area, and just beyond a turning area at the end of the track.

A small stream runs along the northern boundary next to the lane: although not included the woodland owners have in the past enjoyed this as their own. The native woodland, conifers and wetlands are an ideal combination for a wide variety of wildlife, and songbirds and woodpeckers can frequently be seen and heard.

There are no specific designations on the wood.

Access: There is access along a long forest track through woodland from a locked entrance gate; at the end of this track the wood is private and peaceful.

Sporting rights: Included.

Mineral rights: Included, except as reserved by statute.

Local area: The woodland is located in a very quiet rural area, but with easy access to the A40 three miles away, Carmarthen 7 miles away, and 22 miles from the end of the M4.

Boundaries:  the northern boundary is the stream running alongside the lane;  the eastern boundary is the old earth bank alongside the field; the western boundary is a line of posts running from the upper track (to which Rush Wood does not have access) down to the main access track (alongside an old earth bank) then another line of posts further to the west running down to the stream (although these are now well hidden in the undergrowth). The southern boundary is the northern edge of the two tracks. The boundaries are indicated by (now very faded) blue paint. To aid identification, fresh orange paint has been added to some of the boundary marker posts.

Covenant: in common with the neighbouring woodlands, there is a covenant designed to ensure that all can have quiet and peaceful enjoyment of their woodland.

Public access: There are no public footpaths or public access of any kind within the woodland.

VIEWING: You are welcome to visit this wood by yourself, but please ensure that you have a copy of these sales details with you - many woodlands do not have mobile phone reception or internet access so we recommend either printing the details or downloading them to your phone/tablet/laptop.

Please take care when viewing as the great outdoors can contain unexpected hazards and woodlands are no exception.

Directions

Take the A40 from Carmarthen heading towards St Clears for approximately 3 miles,

Turn right signposted for Meidrim/Bancyfelin - the B4298.

A few hundred yards after that turn there is another right hand turn, (sign posted to Meidrim on the B4298),

Follow this road for about 2½ miles.

Take the second right hand turn, (unsigned) just before a white house sited on the left hand side of the road on the brow of the hill. Continue for about ½ mile passing Bwlch Farm on the left.

The wood entrance is a few hundred yards further along on the right side at the bottom of the hill, by the Forests.co.uk for sale sign.

There is room to park without blocking the entrance gate. Walk along the track and you will find the wood at the end of the track. The start of the wood is marked with a Forests.co.uk For Sale sign.
