Description  Athough Oakley Wood is an evergreen plantation its history and spirit of place is strongly linked with Culford Hall and Estate.  The site has been occupied since before 1400's and passed through a succession of owners including the Cootes, Bacons, Cornwallis's, the Benyons de Beavoir and Cadogans passing in the 1930's to Culford School who are still in residence. Dixons Covert, of which Oakley is part, seems to have been integral to the formal landscape around the Hall, showing influence from both Thomas Wright and Humphrey Repton. There's a fine view looking out from the Hall but the owners of Oakley Wood fare far better with their view of the magnificent facade of the Italian style Hall.

Corsican and Scots pine thrive on the light sandy soil, their geometric layout and grassy floor makes for easy walking and internal access. Oakley Wood is included in the Park and Garden Heritage designation.

Boundaries: Are shown by orange markings on trees and posts and are, north - a post and wire fence, the southwest a line of free-standing posts and the southeast it's the track edge.

Mineral Rights: Are retained by a previous owner but these cannot be excercised without the land owner's agreement.

Sporting Rights: Are in hand and included.

Access: is off the public highway along the forest track with a full right of way, the shared maintenance is according to the use made.

The purchasers of this woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of this and adjoining woodlands. Click here for details.
