It is not often that we are able to offer to market such good examples of classical English woodland.

Vixen Wood forms part of a larger ancient woodland known as Withmale Wood. The main section of the wood was thinned about 15 years ago to allow the coppice understorey to flourish. Thus Vixen Wood now has well spaced mature oak and ash trees that dominate the woodland with mixed coppice below. The coppice would supply materials for green wood craft, bush-craft or a sustainable wood source.

At the southern end of the woodland an there is an area with a very different feel with more open space beneath large oak and ash trees. Bluebells and wood anemone can be found blooming in the woods in April. These are indicative of the ancient aspects of this woodland: careful exploration of the ground flora will also reveal the herb paris and patches of wild garlic. The plant life in this wood has been deemed such a good example it is registered with Natural England whose experts are able to advise and give guidance to any new owner.

Whilst you might assume that gems such as this are normally inaccessible, Vixen Wood is an exception being easily reached from the regional conurbations. A large locked gate ensures only woodland owners have access which keeps the area quiet and undisturbed. No public access or footpaths cross the land. The woodland is home to an amazing variety of wildlife including roe and muntjac deer, hares, badgers and foxes. Also buzzards and tawny owls can be found here. Woodcock are evident during the winter months and all of these animals benefit from the protection this woodland gives them.

Open farmland lies across a ride to the west of the woodland and you may see deer and hares move out to feed on these fields at dawn and dusk. The wood gets extra sunlight along the western boundary yet is still protected from winds by a hedge on the far side of the ride. Bordered on all other sides by further areas of private woodland; Vixen Wood is both accessible and private.

Because this is a special woodland it is protected and recognised as a SSSI (site of special scientific interest) which should give a new owner the satisfaction of knowing that they will be the guardian of a quite special woodland. Full details can be found here...
