Whittys Wood is a functional family orientated woodland with good access and topography in a sought after location near Axminster.

Whittys Wood is accessed via a stone track from a quiet country lane. There is a private parking area at the woodland entrance with a defined track leading into the south western edge of the woodland. The woodland is partly mature broadleaved trees as well as semi mature conifer trees which are predominantly Douglas fir. Broadleaved tree species within the woodland including oak, birch, willow, alder, hazel and ash.

The well spaced conifers allow easy use of the woodland. A small clearing can easily be made for the creation of a camping area.

Whittys Wood is named after Thomas Whitty who founded Axminster carpets in the 1750’s and carpets are still produced within the town to this day. At the time Thomas Whitty's fine carpets were supplied to such places as Chatsworth House and Brighton Pavillion.
