Stowell Wood is a diverse woodland of two parts nestled between the Blackdown Hills AONB and the Dorset AONB.

To the left of the main access track as you enter the woodland sits approximately half an acre of conifer woodland. The main woodland, at the far end of the track, is over six acres and contains a broad mix of species.

In the central area felling has taken place in recent years and planted with eucalyptus nitens, now around 3 years of age. Eucalyptus nitens is a fast growing hardwood which is used for construction in many parts of the world but also makes great firewood.

Around the fringes of the woodland mature beech and impressive oak still stand. Birch, sycamore, hemlock, larch, holly and also rhododendron are also present.

The woodland is level and easy to navigate as woodland paths lead you to and around the site. There is a wide clearing to the west of the site, ideal for camping and woodland activities and a pleasant brook has cut various channels through the site running from east to west. A small pond can be found near the main entrance.

Locally, the market towns of Chard and Crewkerne are just a short drive. With easy access to A358, the coast is just over 20 minutes away.

Ward is Blackdown & Tatworth and the County Council is Somerset

Boundaries: The boundary is open to the west and borders neighbouring woodland which is marked with blue paint and then orange further north. To the east and south the boundary is fenced and meets field and farmland.

Access: There is excellent vehicle access all year round via a hard track and shared locked gate. Parking is possible within the woodland itself.

Covenant: There is a covenant on the wood designed to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of this and adjoining woodlands, click HERE to read and download.
