Description: A substantial woodland full of mature sweet chesnut coppice and some of the most amazing mature chestnut trees with a girth of over 10 ft;  tall and in very good condition. Estimated to be about 300 years old. The chestnut would have been planted to supply the local horticulture with poles, stakes and building materials.

Most of the woodland is designated as Ancient Woodland, meaning it's been wooded at least since 1600, and because of its high conservation value, is a site of special scientific interest (SSSI),  CLICK HERE for details.  Because of the high landscape value the woodland is included in the Kent Downs AONB,  CLICK for details.

Half the chestnut coppice ( at least 700 tons ) is ready to be cut if required, to make high quality post and rail fencing, furniture, or more recently an eco-friendly construction material via companies such as Inwood Developments. Or just for firewood. Although of high conservation value this is commercial grade woodland and therefore clearly eligible for the forestry/land tax benefits.

Plans have been approved to erect woodsheds in clearings and a wildlife pond on the western boundary.
The western boundary adjoins Jeskyns Farm, a large Forestry Commission openspace, one of the largest wildflower meadows in Kent, with ponds, bridle paths and childrens play areas. The footpath on this side leads to the pretty Cobham village, with historical pubs, restaurants and church.

Roman history is much in evidence, the A2 is the old Watling Street, more recent is the Cobham Park

Access: A private entrance from Halfpence Lane where plans have been approved to construct a hard track from the lane into the middle of the wood for timber extraction.

Boundaries: The wood has approx 1200 metres of stock and deer fence, all along the north, east and south boundaries. With the woodland to the north east there is a chestnut fence.
