As the photos show the woodland has the most amazing display of bluebells, tall and strong growing and probably some of the best in this part of Kent. The wood is principally oak with mature sweet chestnut coppice and areas of younger birch, alder and hazel coppice. There is mature hornbeam coppice on the roadside woodbank and behind this is an area of aspen. With the bluebells are areas of wood anenome and celandine.

A small seasonal stream meanders down from north to south, which is crossed by the footpath as shown on the plan, ending in a slightly wetter area.

Records show the wood to be Ancient semi-natural. See the website Magic and select Woodchurch and Habitat Inventories to see the online map. This plan is also shown in the photos gallery. Because of the special wildlife quality it is designated with another 240 acres to the north as a Kent Wildlife Site (click here for details). The landscape value is acknowledged in the Special Landscape Area designation. Sporting rights and mineral rights are included.

Boundaries

To the north along the roadside it's the bank; to the west the line of stakes and to the east and south the banks adjoining the fields.
