Description: Coed Craig-y-Master is a lovely uneven-aged broadleaf woodland with good access. Woodlands of this size do not often come to market in Monmouthshire.  This wood is in a quiet rural location, but conveniently located only a few miles from the M4 and M48.  The northern two thirds of the woodland is classified as Ancient Semi Natural Woodland, making it of high conservation value. Old Ordnance Survey maps show that the parts that were not woodland in 1901 were by 1920.

The woodland is diverse, with ash, oak, beech, and many other species throughout.  Near the entrance gate there is a small patch of larch trees. Some parts of the woodland floor are covered with bluebells, and many other species typical of ancient woodland are sure to be found.

A small family of deer were seen in the wood when photographs were taken for these sales particulars, but whether they are normally resident or passing through is not known.

Access: The woodland is accessed from a well maintained track/green lane off "Old Road" at Golden Hill, near Pen-y-Cae Mawr. Inside the gateway into the wood there is a level area suitable for parking a vehicle. Within the wood there is a network of tracks, some cleared and suitable for four wheel drive access (shown on the map below), and some that are currently just footpaths (not shown on the map).

Sporting rights: Included.

Mineral rights: Included, except as reserved by statute.

Local area: The woodland is located in a very quiet rural area, but with easy access to the M4 at J23A or J24 only 7 miles away, or the M48 at Chepstow, 10 miles away. Usk is just 5 miles away.

Boundaries: The majority of the south-western boundary is formed by a public footpath/green lane. The north eastern boundary is marked by a fence line with adjoining woodland (mostly intact, but on the ground in a few places). The eastern boundary is formed by an earth bank on the east side of the track that provides access to the wood.

Public access: There are public footpaths bordering the south western and the eastern boundaries of the wood, but no public access of any kind within the woodland itself .

VIEWING: You are welcome to visit this wood by yourself, but please ensure that you have a copy of these sales details with you - many woodlands do not have mobile phone reception or internet access so we recommend either printing the details or downloading them to your phone/tablet/laptop.

Please take care when viewing as the great outdoors can contain unexpected hazards and woodlands are no exception.
