Green Wood (part) is a charming example of Ancient and Semi-Natural Woodland, set within the heart of the High Weald (AONB). Offering complete privacy and seclusion, it’s an ideal retreat for those seeking peace and a closer connection with nature. At just under an acre, it’s also a perfect size for anyone wishing to manage their own woodland.
The wood is dominated by hornbeam, with a scattering of birch, oak, ash, beech, and hazel adding to its diversity. At ground level, grasses and ferns make it easy to explore, while the varied terrain includes several open, level areas well-suited to establishing a base for woodland activities. From the higher ground, there are attractive views looking north.
Along the northern boundary runs a seasonal stream that has carved a deep channel through the landscape over time. Deer are a frequent sight in the surrounding woods, and with a little patience, it’s common to spot them moving quietly through the trees.
The nearby market town of Heathfield is just a short drive away, providing a range of amenities. For those wishing to venture further, the coast and the historic town of Hastings can be reached in just over half an hour.
Ward is Horam & Punnetts Town and the County Council is East Sussex.
Boundaries: The boundary is open on all sides and marked with blue paint. To the north, the boundary follows the seasonal stream, east and west border neighbouring woodland and south the main access track.
Access: Vehicle access is possible via a hard track and a shared locked gate. With some clearing, parking would be possible within the woodland itself.
