Shepherds Myrtle is a secluded area of ancient and semi-natural woodland, located just a short drive from the south coast.

The woodland primarily comprises of semi-mature chestnut coppice, interspersed with impressive veteran oak. Other native species such as hornbeam, holly, birch, cherry, hazel and butcher's broom are also present. In early spring, bluebells blanket much of the ground, creating a vibrant seasonal display.

Access to the woodland is via a private entrance off a quiet country lane, with a wide track running along the western boundary, offering easy entry at multiple points. The terrain is flat throughout, making it easy to explore, with numerous clearings providing ideal spaces for a variety of woodland activities.

The current owners have used the site to host bushcraft workshops for several years, making the most of its natural features and accessibility.

Shepherds Myrtle enjoys a prime location just south of the High Weald National Landscape and a short distance from the coast. The nearby village of Herstmonceux is only a few minutes away by car, offering local amenities including shops, pubs, and restaurants. Herstmonceux Castle and The Observatory Science Centre are also within walking distance, adding to the appeal of this unique and peaceful woodland retreat.

The ward is Herstmonceux & Pevensey Levels, and the County Council is East Sussex.

Boundaries: South is partially fenced and borders neighbouring woodland. East is open and follows Jenners Lane and a high woodbank. North is fenced and gated at the main entrance. West is also open and follows the main access track.

Access: Vehicle access is possible via a hard track and a private locked gate. Parking is possible within the woodland itself.
